I couldn’t think of a more perfect place for a painter. The adobe structure, bountiful garden, modern furniture (awesome modern furniture!), gorgeous light and stunning landscape – all echoing a minimalist aesthetic.
We toured her home (where, unfortunately, no photography was allowed) after having visited the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe the day before. Georgia O’Keeffe in New Mexico: Architecture, Katsinam, and the Land is the current exhibit. How perfect! She was inspired by the colors, shapes and textures she found in Northern New Mexico – and I must say, so were we. We drove out to the White Place, near Abiquiú, and the subject of some of O’Keeffe’s paintings. Another O’Keeffe / Paul Strand moment was photographing the San Francisco de Asis Church in Rancho de Taos, perhaps one of the most photographed/painted churches in the US. We were entranced and went three times to capture its essence…
